For By Him We Can

With your help I can defeat an army. If my God is with me, I can climb over enemy walls. (Psalm 18:29, ERV)

Today I am embarking on something new. Well, actually it’s a familiar territory, but I am doing it in a new way. Over a year ago, I attempted to accomplish a certain goal. It started off great! I dived right into it and to be honest, I was doing very well. I was on my way to accomplishing that goal that I set out to do. However, as the months went by, I begin to get discouraged. I was discouraged because I did not see the changes that I thought I should have seen. As a result, I begin slacking off. I begin to allow obstacles and distractions to pull me off track. Eventually, the goal that started off as being most essential to me became less important. Soon, that achievable goal was sitting back on the shelf collecting dust.

Recently, I begin to wonder what went wrong. Why did that goal that was so significant to me at the beginning, became less urgent? How did the drive and fire that I initially possess go away? Well, I realize I had been doing a lot of things wrong.

I started off trying to accomplish this huge task, this huge goal on my own. I relied on my own strength and wisdom. Then, I enlisted a little help from others, but I failed to rely on the most important person. I didn’t rely on God. Yes, I had help and the support of family and friends. I received expert advice; however, I did not utilize the supernatural support and the supernatural expertise from the Creator. I needed supernatural power, supernatural wisdom, and supernatural guidance, which only comes from God, in order to accomplish that challenging goal. I needed my Heavenly Father’s help.

So, today, I am trying it again. I’m embarking on a familiar territory, but I’m doing it in a new way. I’m determined to accomplish that goal that I started over a year ago. I’m going to continue to use the support of my family and friends, because it’s good to have the support of others. But God will be the ultimate decision maker. When stumbling blocks and diversions come, I will make petitions to my faithful Father. I will look to Him for the help and support that’s needed to accomplish any goal.

Sister, we have supernatural support waiting for us to ask for His help. For by Him, we can achieve anything.

Christ is the one who gives me the strength I need to do whatever I must do. (Phil. 4:13 ERV)

Last Sunday

My thoughts on yesterday:

Ah. The last Sunday of 2014. Wow! I’ve made it to the last Sunday. God, I sure do thank You. For You have kept me from January 1, 2014 through December 28, 2014. Just 3 days left of this entire year. This year, like every year, brought challenges. There were days when I wanted to quit. Days when I said, “Just forget it. What’s the point.” In my waiting, I grew tired and weary, but God, You gave me strength to keep pressing my way. I had a lot of testing and trials in 2014, but they were all for my good. Those tests kept me on my knees; they pushed me closer to You, and I communed with you more. Thank You for those tough days.

Some days, I passed the test, while other days I failed big time. In spite of it all, I saw Your great mercy at work. I experienced Your saving grace because Lord, You saved me. You rescued me from myself.

God, You know me better than I know myself. You know my inner thoughts, my dark secrets. You know my heart, my every motive behind every action. Lord, You know. Nothing is hidden from You. Father, You made me and formed me in my mother’s womb.

Through all the ups and downs, You’ve been faithful to me. You believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. You told me that I could. You showed me that there was more inside of me, that I can conquer, that I can overcome. I win if I keep You first. So, Father as I enter into Your sanctuary, Your house of worship, I reflect on Your faithfulness. My mind ponders on Your protection and provisions that was given by You on a daily basis. And I meditate on Your precious Word that has been a lamp for me.

I thank You for another opportunity to be able to spend this last Sunday morning of 2014 in Your house and in Your presence.

Father, thank You for this an awesome privilege!

Actions Speak Louder

But he was being punished for what we did. He was crushed because of our guilt. He took the punishment we deserved, and this brought us peace. We were healed because of his pain. (Is. 53:5, ERV)

According to the way I see things, actions says everything. You can talk as much as you want, until you’re blue in the face. However, if your actions don’t line up with your words, you are truly wasting my time. I come from a place where a person’s words and actions mean a lot. They are important. If you tell me you have my back and you’re going to do something, I’m believe you. So I sit back and wait and watch. I listen and I observe. Two things will happen. You will either be a person of your word or your actions and words will contradict. Should they differ, I’m done. As wrong as it may be to take this approach, I will find it extremely hard to believe anything else that proceeds out of their mouth. Their words would be insignificant to me. Why? Because their actions told me everything I needed to know about them. The actions revealed that person’s true motives.

In today’s passage, Isaiah gives us reason behind Jesus’ crucifixion. We learn God’s true purpose (motive) for sending His one and only Son. Why did God send Jesus? For love. This entire chapter gives us a beautiful picture of what real love is. It describes to us what true love will do and how far it will go. It shows us how insanely in love our Father is with His creation. When looked at, Jesus features and appearances were unattractive to us (Is. 53:2). They were so unappealing that when we saw Him, in disgust we turned away (Is. 53:2-3). We rejected Him, mocked Him, and ridiculed Him. We shun Him away from our world, which was the world He created. But the ugliness we saw, the disdained we felt about Him, was our own sin. He bore our iniquities.

Jesus on Cross with Ppl watching_jpg_srz

God so loved the world (John 3:16). His Words speak about His great love for us. Yet through His Son, Jesus Christ, His actions spoke even louder. Not only did He say,  “I love you. You are My beloved.”, but God said, I’m going to prove to you just how much I love you.

Let’s Pray: Heavenly Father, we thank You for loving us. Your love is indescribable and mind blowing. On the cross You showed us how much You love us. Now, Father, show us how to love like You. Teach us how to give You more than just lip service. We want our actions, motives, and lives to be motivated by your amazing love. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Time of Gladness

Christmas is only a few days away. Have you completed your shopping? Well, I haven’t begun and it’s not a surprise to me. When I’m not careful by not allowing my mind to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas, I’ll quickly be drawn into the secular attitude of this amazing Holy-day. The stress, irritability, rushing, shopping, creating a financial strain, and not focusing on the true purpose for Christmas will suck the joy right out of me. (It has in the past.) For the past few years Christmas has not been a holiday I favored. Can you believe that? A Christian not enjoying Christmas? Yes, I was that Christian, when I allow the world’s mindset of Christmas to distract me. I stress out about finding (and buying) that perfect gift. I spend what I don’t have on stuff that will eventually lose its value and sentiment after the holidays are over.

VIDEO: I NEED A SILENT NIGHT

Instead of allowing the spotlight to be on the real gift, which is Jesus, I get caught up in purchasing gifts that will never ever compare or measure up to my Savior. Yes, I would allow the pressure of getting and giving to pull the joy, laughter, and peace right out of my heart.

So, what does Christmas mean to you? To the Believer, Christmas signifies victory over every situation. Christmas is a joyous and wonderful time to rejoice and give glory to God for what He has done. It represents redemption to the loss, liberation to the captives and prisoners of sin, and freedom to the oppressed. Christmas means God has kept His promise of giving us a Savior, and it brings good news to all. And the birth of the Savior provided a bridge to take us on a new journey, a new path, and give us a new life.

“The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the LORD’s favor has come. ” (‭Luke‬ ‭4‬:‭18-19‬ NLT)

Not only is Christmas a time of gladness, but on the other hand, Christmas brought judgment, and condemnation to Satan. The birth of Jesus gave Satan his notice, sealing his fate. On Christmas Day, the prophecy in Genesis was fulfilled. Satan would be crushed.

And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” (‭Genesis‬ ‭3‬:‭15‬ NIV)

That first Christmas was a big slap in Satan’s face reminding him that his time was running out. No longer could his slick words and slithering advances be the web that traps us. We have been given the power through Jesus Christ to not adhere to his lies nor fall for his wicked plots to twist up scripture (Luke 4:1-13). The first Christmas initiated such a beautiful time to reflect, with a grateful heart, the incredible gift of salvation God gave us by way of a innocent babe in a manger (Luke 2). Tis the season to be jolly! Why? For unto us a child is born. Unto us a Son is given (Is. 9:6). We have peace on earth because Emmanuel has come (Is. 7:14).

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (‭Isaiah‬ ‭9‬:‭6‬ NLT)

My sister, I want to be filled with so much of the Savior’s love and joy (not only this season but every day) that it spills over and causes a lost soul to want to know the true reason we celebrate Christmas. May all of us be awestruck by the joy, peace, grace, and favor God has given to all through the brilliant gift and sacrifice of our sweet Savior, Jesus Christ.

Merry Christmas, my sister!

But the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people: Today a Savior, who is Messiah the Lord, was born for you in the city of David. (Luke 2:10-11, HCSB)

Greatest Best Thing

Look back over your life. Make a list of all the things that have changed your life for the better. What or who is on your list? What came to your mind first? What’s at the top of your list? Was it easy to write a list or did you find it to be challenging? Possibly your list is so long that you can go on and on about your many successes. Awesome! On the other hand, maybe you can only think of a few. And that’s fine too. Perhaps you may feel there hasn’t been any good things that have happened in your life. Well, if so, let me share my list with you.

Out of all the things that has happened in my life, the greatest best thing that has changed my life for the better is this:

1. JESUS

Now, of course, I could add more to that list, but I wanted to list the greatest best thing. And that is Jesus. He is my BEST thing! I know you probably get tired of me saying how blown away I am about God’s amazing love for me. But I am. God really blows my mind. I’m in awe that He loves me just that much. He loves me so much that He saved me, changed me, and adopted me into His perfect family. I was a nobody and still would be that pitiful person had Jesus not saved me. He poured His grace and Holy Spirit upon me, giving me a different outlook on life. He has given me a new life, a future, and hope.

Today, with great joy, I’m rejoicing and basking in His extraordinary love. I’m so grateful to God for loving me and choosing me. He chose me! He didn’t have to, but I’m glad He did. And He chose you, too! Before you were born, before you were conceived in your mother’s womb, God knew you and selected you to be a part of His glorious family (Jer. 1:5; Is. 49:1; 2 Tim. 2:19). Why? Because He loves you.

The sons and daughters of God who have accepted Jesus into their hearts have a beautiful inheritance waiting for them in Heaven. Our prize and crown awaits us. Not only does God gives us such wonderful blessings to enjoy right now, but when we get to Heaven, what a day of rejoicing there will be. Whoa!! That beautiful city awaits us. Our Savior is waiting for us to cross over to the other side, and I can’t wait to see Him face to face.

Our Savior is the GREATEST BEST THING that has ever happened to us. Had it not been for our sweet Jesus dying for our sins, taking our place on the cross, exchanging our dirty life for a life brand new, oh where we would be.

So to all our accomplishments, our achievements, dreams that have and will come true, to all the applauds, and pats on the back, they do not and will not ever compare to the joy, peace and new life Christ has given us. For He is our GREATEST BEST THING!

My sister, have you had a chance to experience Christ? Do you know Him for yourself? Is He your personal Savior? Has He washed you and made you new? If not my friend, try God today. Why not give Jesus a try? Taste and see that He is GOOD. Oh, how blessed, favored, happy, fortunate, and prosperous you will be. Today, place your total trust in Him, and let Jesus be all you will ever need and more. May your days be filled with Jesus.

It Wednesday – Hump Day! Here’s a Biblical principle to help get us over the hump.

Open your mouth and taste, open your eyes and see—
how good GOD is. Blessed are you who run to him.(Psalm 34:8, MSG)
